Surgery Process Planning System

SPSS OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the SPSS software are to provide Surgery Centers with a tool:

  • To improve patient processing, minimize operating costs and maximize profitability

  • To  improve their surgery centers scheduling technique and optimize the utilization of the resources (i.e., doctors, nurses, surgery rooms, etc.), required to meet the surgical demand defined by their patients

  • Determine the patient processing capability of the existing and proposed changes for the surgery process areas 

  • Determine the surgery process area requirements (equipment, recovery rooms, doctors and nurses, etc.) to meet the surgical procedure rates, based on the operating parameters defined by the surgery center

  • Identify  surgical process area improvements (opportunities)

 

SPSS CAPABILITIES

The SPPS software has the following input capabilities:

  1. The Surgery Process Planning System software has the capability to vary the following input parameters:

  • Daily demand by surgery procedure, for each quarter and a one (1) year period

  • SPPS has the capability to have up to 400 unique surgery types

  • The user will be able to specify the operating efficiency for each surgery process area

  • The user will have the ability to define the surgical process steps associated with each surgery type – each surgical procedure type will be able to have up to 60 surgical process steps

  • The user will be able to define the process time by surgery type and surgical process step the patient goes through for each surgery type and includes an efficiency factor (as a variable)

  • The user will be able to define the prep time by surgery type and process

  • The surgical procedure pass rate by surgery type and surgical process step

  • Unit sales price by surgery type

  • The user can specify any unplanned downtime statistics associated with any of the resources (i.e., doctors, nurses, surgical equipment, etc.) used in a surgical procedure

  • Time period to simulate to include days, hours per shift and shifts per day

    • Surgical process step capacity (number of doctors, number of nurses, number of recovery rooms, etc.)

    • The ability to save a scenario

    • The ability to open a previously saved scenario

    • The ability to import all the data generated from the simulation software and allow the user to create custom reports

 

SPSS DESCRIPTION

  1. SPPS will generate output reports in either a tabular and/or graphical format for the following:

  • The average, minimum and maximum process time required to complete each surgical procedure

  • The average, maximum and final number of patients waiting for each process step associated with each surgical procedure

  • The average utilization associated with all of the resources (i.e., doctors, nurses, surgery rooms, recovery rooms, etc.)

  • Daily number of surgical procedures completed by surgery type
