Manufacturing Planning System

The primary purpose of MPS is to determine if sufficient capacity is available (in terms of equipment) to satisfy the stated demand.  The user can vary the following operating parameters to conduct a “what-if” analysis:

bullet

Number of parts to be produced—up to sixty (60) different part numbers

bullet

Type of station used to process the parts—up to eighty (80) different stations

bullet

Station capacity

bullet

Cycle time by part number and station

bullet

Yield rate by part number and station

bullet

Setup time by part number and station

bullet

Mean time between failure for each station

bullet

Mean time to repair for each station

bullet

Operating sequence for each part  number

bullet

Time period to simulate—daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually

bullet

Number of time periods to simulate—up to twenty-four (24) periods

bullet

Quantity of parts to be produced

The user can run MPS with the specified parameters and view the results.  All time based output units in this system are in minutes.  The software will generate an output report for each of the following:

bullet

Production projection

bullet

Station utilization

bullet

Station queue sizes

Graphical charts can be generated for the station utilization and station queue sizes.

MPS can be used as often as needed, based on the business/operating environment.  The software allows the analyst to evaluate future business and operating scenarios to optimize the utilization and throughput of the process area.
